Are We the Problem or Robots?
Some people believe that robots aren't the problem, we are. Depending on how you feel about robots and technology, you can either think it is a positive thing or a negative thing for society and humans. You can see it as robots will help relieve us from jobs we do not like and allow us to take on other jobs, or you can see it as they are going to take all of our jobs, leaving us broke and homeless. Some people see the robots as taking both blue collard jobs and high level jobs from us. Is that because we are not skilled enough anymore? Do people need to learn more and get degrees in order to not be replaced by robots? Jobs could be divided into high paying, high skilled jobs and low paying, low skilled jobs. It is important for people to adapt to the new technology and robots that are coming into society. If not, people will fall behind.
In the book Race Against the Machine, Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee, make the point that technology eliminates some jobs, but it also increases and upgrades others. This allows for increased productivity, which leads to lower costs. Lower costs could mean that companies will hire more people to fill in other jobs. Lower costs of goods will allow people to have more money to buy things. This in turn will stimulate the economy more. They will also be able to pay other people to do things for them, which then creates more jobs. These jobs could possibly include maids, babysitters, cooks, or anything of that sort and more. Of course there are upsides and downsides to everything. Do you think that we are the problem or robots are? How so? How do you feel about robots and technology? Is it a positive or negative thing?

I think that robots are more of the problem than we are. They may seem useful because they take the simple, dirty jobs no one seems to want. However people are all different. Some people are book smart and others are doers. People who are less into hitting the books will suffer if they are competing against high skilled robots that are willing to work for nothing. I can only imagine that if robots begin to take all the simple jobs then the only jobs left are the complex thinking jobs. Society is only applying itself less and less as technology grows. I once read in an article that we are becoming dumber because we cannot set aside our gadgets to give ourselves time to think. We need to set a thinking time to allow ourselves to form our own thoughts in order to avoid crowd conformity (groupthink).
ReplyDeleteYou bring up a good point about people that are doers. I agree it is important to think of our own thoughts.
DeleteI think robots are the problem than we are. As technology is increasing, robots are taking more of people's jobs and leaving them behind in the workplace. People who are less educated like maids and housekeepers will suffer more if robots take over their jobs.Increasing technology is making us more lazy day by day. People mostly depend on technology everyday even if they just have to do simple calculations. This might also affect people when it comes to working. I think robots are both positive and negative affect to the society.
ReplyDeleteI think robots are the problem. Technologies are always being invented to increase productivity and reduce costs. Robots will definitely take over many jobs, but it will also create new jobs. They will need people to create and support robots. As a result, people will need education to deal with advance technologies. Robots will not be perfect, so we will always need people around.
ReplyDeleteThis issue comes up a lot because it does eliminate jobs. However, it also does create newer ones. "Robots" improve and automate a lot of our processes. Therefore, we need these automations to improve our way of life. It is the key to cleaner energy, better medical research, and many more components of life.
